I know. The shroud cost twice the price 4GB of memory. That's bad. From what I've read and Dell, the computer won't boot without the shroud if the memory is more than 4GB.

if indeed you need that shroud in order to run 4GB or more.... then what I would do is investigate what makes that shroud so special... As you mentioned... it is made of plastic and a fan... well.......

Just sit the fan in the case. Those shrouds are just fancy pants useless pieces of equipment IMO. They apparently 'direct' the airflow to the CPU, but they dont make any difference really

just use double sided sticky tape to secure the fan to the chassis... you'll figure it out...

So you are saying that I can replace both fans on my Dell Workstation 670 with the Antec Cool Spot fans and then I can add over 4gb of Ram and won't get the error, add cooling fan

Any fan should do. Even remove the one thats in the shroud. Once there is a fan connected to that fan header the error should go away. This is NOT the CPU fan, right?

Definately not a CPU fan, upgrading memory over 4gig and it requires additional memory fan.
